July 18, Lee’s Summit, Mo. / Piper Cherokee 180

At 0740 central time, a Piper PA-28-180 crashed shortly after takeoff from runway 18 at Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport. The pilot and passenger were killed. Weather at the time was reported as visibility 1¾ miles in mist and an overcast at 100-600 feet agl, averaging 300 feet. The 228-hour pilot was not instrument-rated....
