When To Use The Gear

Most agree that it’s a good idea to lower the landing gear before landing. But how early? And when should it be raised?

Just like the arguments over which is the better alternative between high-wing or low-wing, or choosing between tricycle gear and a taildragger, there’s no simple answer to the question of when you should raise the gear after takeoff in a retractable gear airplane, or when you should lower it again for landing.
