January 4, 2009, Wilmington, N.C., Cessna 550 Citation

The airplane was substantially damaged at about 0200 Eastern time when it impacted the runway during a forced landing with the landing gear retracted. The airplane departed the Dominican Republic at about 2300. The airline transport pilot, commercial pilot and five passengers aboard were uninjured. Instrument conditions prevailed. The pilot told investigators the airplane had run out of fuel.
