June 18, 2009, Dougherty, Texas, Cessna R182

At approximately 2145 Central time, the airplane was destroyed when it impacted terrain. A post-impact fire ensued. Night visual conditions prevailed. The pilot and pilot-rated passenger were both fatally injured. At approximately 2125, the accident airplane called the Unicom frequency asking which runway was in use. At 2140, the accident airplane called the Unicom frequency again, asking about the weather at a nearby airport. The Unicom operator attempted to contact the accident airplane at 2150, with no response.
