Have A Cigar

On a very cold spring afternoon, I cajoled one of my partners in our restored 1963 Super Cub to fly with me. With 700 hours in mainly tri-gear airplanes and about 200 in the Super Cub, I felt comfortable with Howie and his 1500-plus hours in taildraggers. We pulled out the Cub and did the preflight and walk-around, checking the oil and eyeballing the sight gauges in the wing roots, which show a half a tank on the port wing and maybe, one quarter in the starboard side. We ascribed the discrepancy between the two sides to uneven pavement. These disparities and uneven pavement was something to which we had become accustomed.
