At about 1930 Eastern time, the experimental amateur-built aircraft sustained substantial damage when it impacted terrain following loss of directional control during takeoff. The private pilot was not injured. Visual conditions prevailed. It was the pilots first flight in the airplane since purchasing it.

The airplane entered a right turn as soon as it lifted off the runway. The pilot was unable to keep the airplane from turning to the right as it climbed to about 2-300 feet agl. The airplane had turned about 180 degrees from the runway heading when he pulled the throttle to idle and attempted to land in a field. The airplane continued to turn, overflew a fence, landed hard and impacted a rock pile during the landing roll.
