Procedure Turn, Or Not?

With vectors to final the norm these days and not the exception, it’s rare to perform the procedure turn. Yet, ATC may still expect it. When in doubt, ask.

Even during my instrument training, I rarely performed a procedure turn. In part, that’s because the club airplane’s home base had an ILS on each parallel runway, with its very own Tracon on the field. Once my CFII and I got into non-precision approaches, we also got into procedure turns.
