Off-Airport Landing Considerations

0

Wind and surface

– Upwind landing preferred

– Avoid high crosswinds

– Roads and smooth surfaces preferred

– Avoid soft, rocky or rolling terrain

Landing gear position

– A gear-up landing may minimize risks of cartwheeling when landing on rough surfaces or water

– Otherwise, put it down

Landing area

– Weather permitting, you should be able to pick a good one in the descent. Maneuver for the straight-in

– You’re only going to get one shot at this, so use your engine-out-landing practice time wisely
