Garmin's GWX 70 radar antenna fits into the nose of a Cirrus Vision Jet with room to spare. The unit's flat-plate antenna differs substantially from the parabolic components in older airborne radars in that it minimizes energy-wasting sidelobes. Output from the remote-mounted radar can be displayed on Garmin's G1000 and G600/G500 integrated flight displays as well as the GTN 750 series and others.
Featuring digital processing, it avoids the natural degradation that can occur with analog, magnetron-based radars. Its feature set includes Doppler turbulence detection and ground clutter suppression.
