The airplane sustained substantial damage after a total loss of engine power at 0920 Eastern time while in the traffic pattern. Visual conditions prevailed. The commercial pilot and one passenger reported no injuries.

The airplane had 22.5 gallons of fuel on board. No anomalies were noted before takeoff. The flight was at 250 feet msl when the engine sputtered and quit. The pilot immediately lowered the nose and the engine started. The pilot turned downwind and was midfield when the engine quit again. He turned towards the runway, touching down on its last third, but the airplane went off the end of the runway and nosed over inverted.
