The airplane collided with terrain short of the runway at 1717 Pacific time. The commercial pilot sustained serious injuries; the two passengers were not injured. The airplane was substantially damaged. Visual conditions prevailed. The pilot was returning to the airport with an unsecured fuel cap when the airplane impacted terrain short of the runway.
