November 3, 2012, Roanoke, Texas Cessna 172S Skyhawk SP

At about 1040 Central time, the airplane impacted an automobile while on final approach. The student pilot was not injured, although the airplane was substantially damaged. Visual conditions prevailed for the solo cross-country flight.

Just after crossing the airport fence, the airplane’s landing gear impacted the automobile, resulting in a hard landing. The nose and left main landing gear collapsed, and the airplane veered off the right side of the runway before coming to rest in the grass.
