September 5, 2008, Orange Grove, Texas, Cessna 182

The airplane sustained substantial damage during a forced landing to a field at approximately 1820 Central time, following a loss of engine power. The private pilot and a passenger sustained minor injuries; the other passenger sustained serious injuries. Visual conditions prevailed.

The pilot later stated the airplane was cruising at 3500 feet when the engine stopped producing power. He made a forced landing and the aircraft flipped over after striking a post, resulting in structural damage to the vertical stabilizer. Examination revealed adequate fuel aboard and present in the fuel lines to the gascolator bowl, which was full and absent of water and debris. The intake manifold hose was found not secured to the intake manifold number two tube assembly.
