At about 1116 Eastern time, the airplane was substantially damaged during recovery after a loss of control. The pilot and passenger were not injured. Instrument conditions prevailed; an IFR flight plan was on file. The pilot reported a loss of attitude reference and loss of control during cruise flight in IMC. He subsequently recovered the airplane after descending into VMC. Examination revealed both wings suffered wrinkled upper wing skins and wing structure deformation.
