At approximately 1600 Central time, the airplane was substantially damaged when it impacted trees at the departure end of a runway during a landing attempt after a cross-country flight. Visual conditions prevailed. The private pilot and two passengers were seriously injured. Witnesses reported the airplane was attempting to land with a tailwind. The airplane flew an approach to the runway and towards the departure end, leveled off. The airplane impacted trees at the departure end of the runway bending both wings and crushing the fuselage.
